Pop of Color
While my go-to colors to wear are black, grey, and all the neutrals, this spring I'm going to try to wear more color. A great way to get a pop of color with your look is with your accessories, and I definitely think your nails are included in that category!
I always like to keep a color on my nails, and while going to the nail salon is a treat, keeping up with it can be pricy! I added up approximately how much I would spend a year getting my nails done at a nail salon, and wow! It doesn't seem like much when you stop in every couple weeks, but when you add it up over a year it is quite an expense. To have my fingers and toes done all year around it would cost about $1,248. And this is just one small beauty routine many women commit to. That is not including hair, makeup, skincare products, any massages or facials to treat ourselves, clothes, etc. I've heard beauty is pain, but I need to rephrase that to beauty is painfully expensive! If I can cut the cost anywhere, nails would be one of those areas. My nails are almost always done, and this year so far I've done them on my own. The only polish I use is Essie because it's the only polish I've found that stays on for a while!
Life hack – you can always find Essie nail polish at TJ Maxx or Marshall's for $3.50!
Tips:
If you really want to stick with gel nail polish, but want to save some money you can do it from home! There are no limits to what you can and can't do on your own. Gel nail polish is more expensive, so I recommend only getting a clear gel, painting your nails with regular nail polish, and putting a top coat of gel on. This will last a long time and is only a fraction of the cost of getting gel done at a nail salon!
Always put on a base coat- did you know that oily nail beds are a real thing? You read that right. Just like your hair gets oily, your nails do too. When they become oily, your nail polish is likely to chip easier. I have found that putting on a nail strengthening base coat before I paint my nails makes the polish last much longer.
Get an LED light to help your nails dry faster. I'm infamous for painting my nails and then heading out the door and that never works out. I have found that the best time to do my nails is in the evening when I'm done with all of my tasks for the day (okay I'm never done with everything I need to take care of, but the best time for me is when I've called it quits!) You can find a reasonably priced LED light on amazon here.
